Portals Nous & Puerto Portals

Portals Nous & Puerto Portals , a great team

Portals Nous, with its harbour Puerto Portals, is cosmopolitan with a good dash of glitz and glamour. Besides Majorcans and mainland Spaniards, many international residents also have their own property here. All of them appreciate this beautiful environment with a wide range of leisure activities on offer. For foreigners with children, it's important that the place has international schools to look after the education of their young scholars. Here, there are actually two of them: the King Richard III College and the Agora Portals International School.

The highlight is the ritzy harbour of course, which is situated below Portals Nous. This exceptional spot in the south-west of Majorca accommodates stylish yachts worth millions. They line up next to one another by the pier, with gleaming paint and chrome. This marina offers 650 moorings for yachts of up to 60 metres in length. You don't need to have a boat moored here in order to soak up the unique atmosphere, however, as the marina also boasts a promenade right by the water. This is a catwalk for the rich and beautiful people , and for anyone who doesn't want to miss out on this special Portals ambience.

You get a great extra treat in restaurants such as the Flanigan, the Ritzi, the Baiben (one of Michelin-starred maestro Fernando P. Arellano's restaurants) or the Grand Café Cappuccino, with its enormous outdoor terrace. All of these establishments grant their guests front-row seats to observe the goings-on in the harbour at close range.

This neighbourhood is shopping paradise for well-heeled clientele, as it boasts plenty of select fashion boutiques and shops where you can buy elegant footwear and the trendiest sunglasses of the season... not to mention jewellery shops, in case the mood strikes for a diamond-studded Rolex!

You also have bikini shops offering outrageously expensive two-pieces , perfect to cut a dashing figure on whichever of the two beaches in Portals Nous that you prefer. The first beach, Platja de l'Oratori, is not far from the harbour. Sheltered by towering cliffs, it lies beneath a small chapel called Ermita de Portals Nous, referred to simply as Oratori. A bar clings to the rocks at the end of the beach. This is the Roxy Beach Bar. The second beach is Platja Punta Portals on the other side , that is, west of the harbour.

The harbour is the setting for numerous events all throughout the year, from the Sunset Market in summer, to the Farmers' Market with a selection of the best Majorcan products, to the Christmas Market with mulled wine and hot chestnuts. If you have petrol in your blood, the classic car rally "Rally Clásico" in March is one event that you certainly won't want to miss. It's not every day you see so many old racing cars that have been lovingly cherished and perfectly maintained!

From Portals Nous above the harbour, the general route into Palma is along the main street, Carretera Andratx. Along this street, you'll pass international restaurants as well as shops for everyday needs, including a pharmacy and the very well-stocked Cidon supermarket. If you're in more of a hurry, the motorway link allows you to cover the twelve kilometres to the Majorcan capital city of Palma in no time.

Spa enthusiasts can look forward to relaxing time out in the exotic-looking spa area of the Lindner Golf Resort Hotel. In the off-peak season, this spa and beauty oasis is also open to non-hotel guests. And golfers will be well aware that there's an 18-hole golf course in the immediate vicinity , Real Golf de Bendinat.
