Bendinat: golf, swim, play, enjoy

This location has a lot to offer. It's a good life in Bendinat , a community of 500 inhabitants between Palma and the ritzy harbour of Puerto Portals in the south-west of Majorca. The seaside is right on the doorstep, the Serra de na Burguesa mountain range within view and the vibrant Majorcan capital just nine kilometres away. The place even has its own castle, the Castillo de Bendinat, which greets you from afar with its four towers. Built in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style, it's said to have given Bendinat its name.

According to this nice story, during the conquest of Majorca from the Moors in the year 1229, the Christian King James I is said to have taken a break right at the site of the castle and eaten some bread soup with garlic and olives. Afterwards, he contentedly proclaimed: "Bé dinat!", which means "well fed!". Well, that's how the first legend goes , whereas the second legend says that it dates back to the time when the Moors ruled the island. According to this lore, the name stems from the Arabic "Ben..." meaning "The son of…" , so "The son of Dinat".

In any case, Bendinat in the municipality of Calvià is ideal for anyone who likes tranquil and luxurious surroundings, as it's a classy area with lots of chic properties. The infrastructure is really good , direct motorway link, doctors, great shopping and sports facilities. If you feel like swimming some laps or diving in the pine-bordered bay of Cala Bendinat, or playing a round of golf on the 18-hole course Real Golf de Bendinat , you have it all in your backyard. The challenging golf course designed by Martin Hawtree spans almost 5,700 metres and offers views of the Bay of Palma, the island of Cabrera and Castillo de Bendinat.

Even if you're not a guest at Hotel Bendinat, with its exclusive seaside location, it is the perfect spot for a delicious dinner or a drink on the glamorous outdoor terrace. It's wonderful in summer to treat yourself to a little break there, with a gentle sea breeze caressing your skin.

The nearby Jungle Parc Junior is highly popular with children. Kids between the ages of 4 and 11 navigate from tree to tree and platform to platform at dizzy heights, moving by means of bridges, nets, swings and vines , all roped up and secured. It's a wobbly business and rather great fun!
