Diverse Santa Ponça

Santa Ponça, sometimes spelt Santa Ponsa, simply has something for everyone. Beaches and calm waters. Bars, cafés and restaurants. An adventure park for kids, two harbours and three golf courses. Good shopping facilities, jolly festivals, international doctors. And a turbulent past that goes back thousands of years.

Santa Ponça in the south-west of Majorca has so much going for it that not only does it attract hosts of holidaymakers... many foreigners, including numerous Germans, have found their place in the sun and bought a property here, some of them living in it all year round. One of the other reasons they like Santa Ponça is because of its excellent infrastructure, including motorway access.

And the sea is right on the doorstep! If you're a beachgoer, you can enjoy leisure time on the wide beach Platja de Santa Ponça, dipping in and out of the refreshing water to cool down and then fortifying yourself with a picnic under the palm trees and pines. The beach bars on the seaside promenade are ideal whenever you feel like a drink, and major hunger pangs can be satisfied in one of the nearby restaurants. If there's too much hubbub for you here, why not find a little corner in the small bay of Caló d'en Pellicer with its turquoise blue waters. You'll find it between the main beach and the marina.

You can moor your own boat in Santa Ponça if you have one, but you can also put to sea here without having to own a boat. From the marina, for example, there are two-hour catamaran trips to Camp de Mar, Peguera and the Malgrats Islands , with stops for swimming in between. Some of the passenger boats are very conveniently fitted with "underwater" windows so you can calmly get a good look at the fish, seagrass meadows, and so on, as the boat sails around. If you'd like to go diving yourself, you can get your diving certification or set off on diving trips from the Zoea Mallorca Dive Centre in the Club Náutico. Kayaks and stand up paddleboarding equipment can also be hired.

The chrome flashes and the paint gleams in the sun. Santa Ponça offers yet another harbour , a high-end marina. Port Adriano is the perfect location for large luxury craft worth millions; superyachts up to 80 metres long can moor in the exclusive marina. This marina bears the signature of French ace designer Philippe Starck , with streetlamps reminiscent of grandma's good old standard lamp in the living room. Here, you can also find an offshoot of the iconic Sansibar restaurant (from the German island of Sylt in the North Sea). As well as the select wines they offer, you can even savour their renowned "currywurst", which is traditional sausage in a curry sauce…

With three golf courses to choose from, golfers feel like they're in paradise in Santa Ponça. They can tee off at Golf Santa Ponsa I, Golf Santa Ponsa II or Golf Santa Ponsa III! Plenty of illustrious visitors have played on the former, including Spanish Kings, the King of Sweden, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones, Franz Beckenbauer, and many more.

Children and teens will be in their element at Jungle Parc Mallorca. As they move from tree to tree at dizzy heights in this climbing park, they're well secured. There are different levels of difficulty for the young Janes and Tarzans to master. It's both challenging and fun , so much so that many adults can't resist it either!

Great fun too is the battle between the Moors and the Christian conquerors , which is gleefully re-enacted with a big hullabaloo on the beach of Santa Ponça every year in September. The history is that King James I of Aragon landed in Santa Ponça with his fleet in September 1229 to conquer Majorca from the Moors, providing the background for this festival. You can go even further back in history at Puig de sa Morisca Archaeological Park in Santa Ponça, where you can see the remnants of a Talayot settlement.
