Costa de la Calma
Tranquil Costa de la Calma
Relax , you are in Costa de la Calma! There's no better way to say it: relax , you're on the calm coast! The slogan of the beach bar El Chiringuito in Costa de la Calma applies perfectly to the locality itself, situated in the municipality of Calvià in the south-west of Majorca. Palma de Mallorca is only around 20 kilometres away too, and you can get there in no time on the Ma-1 motorway, seeing as Costa de la Calma has its own motorway access slip road.
01Oasis among the holiday hotspots
This urban centre is a residential area with apartment complexes and attractive villas with sea views. Shops and bars are rare except for typical Majorcan restaurants that are resilient like El Maño on the main street, Avinguda de la Mar. That doesn't matter too much though, because the quiet Costa de la Calma is located between the bustling tourist hubs of Santa Ponsa and Peguera, each with the expected full infrastructure , from a wide range of shopping facilities and restaurants to the golf courses in Santa Ponsa and Andratx.
02Popular with international property owners
This haven of peaceful living is popular with Majorcans as well as with international property owners who've made their wish come true...to own a Mediterranean home and wake up to the tangy sea air.
03Sipping sundowners in the beach bar
A surfaced beach path leads from Cala Blanca to several mini beaches between the rocks, which the locals also love. In a privileged position in between sits the simple and authentic "El Chiringuito", which has various concrete terraces. This beach hut has been here since the 60s. With its plastic chairs and tables and its loungers beneath straw parasols, the little bar has made a name for itself since then. The "pa amb oli" is a must, the music is chilled and the sunset a perfect movie scene. Incidentally, even without consuming anything, you can watch the sunset from one of the rocky plateaus at the side with a view of the entire bay. Not before first having enjoyed a dip in the refreshing water, needless to say...
04Mesmerising shoals
Children particularly love this bathing spot and will treasure great memories of their family holiday. It's a bonus that there's a tiny island (islita) with an excellent springboard opposite the chiringuito, connected to the "mainland" by a bridge. Moreover, the rocky coast attracts many fish that move together in shoals, making snorkelling a very special experience. Black sea bream, for example, swim right in front of your diving goggles. With a bit of luck, you may also spot bright red starfish that cling to the stones underwater.
